E-waste must be collected and recycled.
An EU-Directive - WEEE - has been passed (Waste Electronic and Electronic Equipment).
The directive entails that all manufacturers, importers and distributors are liable for the collection and disposal of used electrical products and electronics.
Legislation and ministerial orders were imposed in individual countries so that the WEEE-Directive would effectively be imposed from the year 2006. This includes both labeling and the manufacturer's liability itself which was imposed from 1 April 2006.
If manufacturers / importers wish to handle the task themselves, Averhoff A/F may assist so that legislative demands for collection and correct disposal are met. Please contact us on ph.no. +45 8624 3844.
To accommodate manufacturers' wish for correct equipment disposal, leading trade organizations in Denmark have founded "Elretur"
Further information
"Elretur" was founded by EPA which is an organization established by the trade organization for consumer electronics, FEHA (the organization for manufacturers and importers of electronic household equipment), The Confederation of Danish Industry/ITEK, Trade, Transport & Service and the Electronic Trade Organization (FAFGE/FABA)
In short, all manufacturers and importers who market new products in Denmark have an obligation to correctly dispose of all e-waste. Consumers may not notice any difference, as household waste is handed in at household waste recycling centers as always. This is, however not the case for manufacturers and importers.
Companies are liable to organize and finance the disposal of e-waste. This may be organized by each individual company. As this result in increased administration and a financial burden for the individual company, most companies have joined a collective arrangement.
The Danish ministerial order (no. 664 from 27.06.2005) was passed by Danish Parliament and implemented by the Danish Ministry of the Environment in the summer of 2005.
The overall political framework is the EU-directive, the so-called WEEE-directive. Companies may sign up for the arrangement at "Elretur", by contacting the secretariat on ph.no. +45 33 36 91 97. Or by visting the website
